Employee Spotlight: Chris Farley

Behind the scenes writing grant applications and prospecting new funding opportunities for our programs and facilities is Chris Farley. Get to know our Grants Coordinator in our staff spotlight series.

How long have you worked at the Alice
Ferguson Foundation?
2 Months

What do you do at AFF?
I’m the Grants Coordinator. I am responsible for writing grants and managing our grants database.

What did you do before coming to AFF?
I was previously a low income housing developer and affordable rental property manager in Newark, NJ and Souderton, PA. I also managed a food rescue and distribution program while working in Souderton. In addition to my 9-5 jobs I owned a juice bar in my hometown of Easton, PA for a few years.

Why do you love working at AFF?
I have always had a love for nature and also believe that the work we do should provide a benefit to our community and our neighbors. My role at the Foundation allows me to do important and fulfilling work.

What is your favorite spot on the property?
While the view at the top of the hill is amazing, in my short time here I have really enjoyed walking down to the river and looking across at Mt. Vernon.

What do you do in your free time away from AFF?
I enjoy cooking plant based meals, exercise & fitness, gardening (I recently paid rent on a community garden plot in Rockville), golfing as well as playing other sports & games, working on various art projects, and cheering for the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Pirates.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?
Going on hikes & exploring new places with my fiancé.

Why do you feel it’s so important to educate others about the environment?
As we continue to see the negative effects of climate change locally and globally it seems like it has never been more important to get involved, set an example, and make a difference.
