About Us

At the Alice Ferguson Foundation, we believe that meaningful connections with nature inspire a lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship. Located on the banks of the Potomac River in Maryland, our programs bring science to life for thousands of students each year—transforming textbooks into hands-on experiences in the outdoors.

From hiking forest trails to studying aquatic ecosystems, we engage Pre K–12 students in immersive, real-world learning that sparks curiosity and deepens their understanding of the environment.

Our impact extends beyond the classroom. Through regional cleanup events and volunteer opportunities, we empower more than 10,000 community members each year to take action for the environment—whether it’s removing trash from riverbanks or planting for pollinators.

Rooted in education, grounded in nature, and driven by community, the Alice Ferguson Foundation has been a gateway to the outdoors for generations. We invite you to learn, explore, and make a difference with us.

Our Mission

The Alice Ferguson Foundation’s mission is to inspire environmental stewardship by giving people the tools to understand, appreciate, and protect nature. Established in 1954, we are a public charity chartered in the state of Maryland.
